The Shelby GT500 is a product of Ford's Special Vehicle Team or SVT, and is built at the Ford plant. Ford paid Carroll Shelby for his name to be on the GT500...I believe this contract ends next year.
If you want your Shelby GT500 to become a "SuperSnake", you buy a Shelby GT500 from Ford, and send it over to Shelby American (SA) in Las Vegas along with $30k and SA will turn it into a SuperSnake.
Also, regular Mustangs (not GT500) may go to SA first before heading to Ford dealers for slight Shelby minor touches (decals and badges, CAI, suspension, etc), same thing that happens to Mustang bearing Roush's name.
Bottom line for those who keep saying the Shelby American builds the Shelby GT500 for Ford, you are 100% incorrect. You are welcome.
The new Shelby GT500 will be beast right out of the box. It finally gets a Launch Control that apparently works very very well.
