You could make a civic spank a lambo, but you'd still be driving a civic. Since OP is modding anyway and a z06 and zr1 are both vettes (badging and other bells and whistles aside), I think it's fully justified to assume the price difference between the two is relevant in potential modification money.

The way I see it, with cars like this you're paying for three things: the look, exclusivity, and performance. OP clearly likes the look/style of the vette, so that choice is already made.

The zr1 will be much more exclusive than a z06, but if you're one of those guys who is chasing the narcissistic (and many people are to some degree) supercar reputation factor, that's where I feel that the zr1 is borderline. You pull up to a beverly hills house party and how many people can readily identify a zr1 vs a regular vette. Now apply the same question to a true supercar. Some people care about this, others don't.

If performance is all you're after and you plan on modding, I wouldn't even get the z06. The base model vette can be modded to destroy the zr1 for much less cost. Given that the OP already has the z06 and is looking to upgrade the zr1, if he is going just for performance, he should really consider the price difference vs the price of mods.

I realize that the zr1 is an awesome car and I'd love to have the kind of money to even consider one, but it's purchase should be considered vs. your goals with the car. Don't buy it thinking you're getting a 1 in a million supercar or an awesome deal on performance because it's not either. It's a great looking vette that can hang with some of the best STOCK cars ever made.
