It seems everthing Chevrolet is coming out with has more to do with cornering rather than straight line. I know, the ZL1, but it too is more a track car than a drag car.
I'm still disappointed that the automatic is not offered in the highest HP engine as Mustang does.
The 2013 Mustang offers 420 HP in the automatic, an on board system that tells you your performance, even a Christmas tree for starting acceleration,
Another cool feature is you open the door at night and the pony logo is reflected onto the ground from the bottom of the mirrow until you shut the door.
What I'm saying is Chevy seems tentative and not being as bold as Ford is on appealing ideas and performance. I'd like to see the old Chevy attitude of we're number one come back with new ideas and performance to stay on top rather than reacting to what Mustang is doing.
It's probably a lot more work to make a fast car that corners well. What's the point of offering some expensive "drag" car when you can go build one out of a muscle car or a dozen other bodies with a shoe-horned huge engine in them? I'll take handling, because it's something I can actually use.

I think chevy is doing the right thing. Ford is doing the right thing too. Ford is selling cars and making some of the cars that people want. Chevy is making some of the cars that people want. Given the Zeta chassi, I'd say Chevy took the "boldest" steps here with their IRS and stiff chassi. In this segment, that was unheard of. The others are making decent cars now because of this. Older mustangs were a joke with 300hp V8s. Now chevy has the ZL1 with supercar handling and performance. It's not slow, it's damn fast around a track and everywhere else. A rounded car. If you want something else, there are other manufacturers that make heavier and lighter cars, slower and faster, and so on. I think most of this is due to chevy taking some serious big steps with the ZR-1/06, CTS-V and Camaro vehicles. Ford tried to mirror a bit of this with the 31 flavors of Mustang, but I think Chevy ends up on top with more distinctive choices. What does ford have that's like a Z06? What does ford have that's like a ZR-1? What does ford have that's like a Grand Sport? What does ford have that's like a ZL1? What does ford have that's like a CTS-V? and on and on. Some of these do have answers, many do not.
