Seriously, I have had countless number of Chevy/GMC truck & vans and have never had to bring one in for warranty work. With regards to parts - there are many, many aftermarket parts so don't sweat it too much. But after all is said, you have to go with your gut... otherwise you probably won't feel comfortable.

And as was already stated - GM isn't going anywhere !!

I had a 99 Silverado, and I loved her (again... only thing I disliked was the ride-height... I feel like they could be a little taller, but I've always been too wimpy to mess with the suspension... only because it rode so well).

Mechanically, it was pretty sound. It had the engine ticking (I think somebody attributed it to the lifters slapping due to some design flaw), but it ran like an ox.

The problems I did have were all electrical. The power windows were replaced 4 Times (3x driver's side... 1 time passenger). The Dash was fixed twice (Dash lights failed on one occasion, and on both occasions, the little information section (with gear selection info, odometer, etc) failed).


So, I'd feel more comfortable with the dealerships still around... hahaha.
