Beat on it a little and it fell apart. Started making a horrible whine, like the gears were out of sync or misaligned. It's gone now.
Transmissions are mostly metal. Something was making the noise and something metallic most likely fell apart, but either way that's not the important part.

Did Ford deny the warranty? Did they not stand behind the transmission?
