I just hope they don't pass up the chance to foreshadow stuff like the Illuminati, or perhaps even the Civil War after the Superhuman Registration Act. The group is certainly going to have some growing pains, we've seen that from the trailer alone, but I wonder if they'll take the foreshadowing route where much of the friction isn't that they should fight evil, but how.

I also like that it looks like they're running with Clarke's third law - in that sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. By including Thor, Captain America/Hulk, and Iron Man, we're seeing the peaks of magical, biological, and mechanical prowess expressed at the same time.

I would submit that this'll be a make-or-break point. If the movie does well, it'll open up opportunities to do more obscure heroes. Ant-man, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, the Kree-Skrull war, and so forth are all characters/plotlines which would help build the richness and depth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe...but unless they know that they can do an ensemble and have it work they may not be interested in doing one-offs just for them.
