It was already slated for a kill by 1993-1994. Originally were gonna do it with '82 being the last generation.. but somehow they pulled it off with the 3rd gen, but they misread the market hard by 1995. So by then the order was given from the top to pour stock into SUVs and abandon the sport coupe market.
Hence why the Monaro became the GTO: it was supposed to be the original 5th gen.
