In 2025 the CAFE standards call for 54.5mpg. The SmartCar doesn't even get 54.5mpg. So God knows what we will be forced to drive in the next decade or so if the EPA isn't abolished.

CAFE is just an average. As long as manufacturers can sell high-MPG cars to offset low-MPG cars, they will have no problem hitting the targets.
Plus CAFE MPG and EPA MPG are two wildly different things. EPA is way lower.
