I used to have cause to carry a sidearm, and it makes you feel like Billy Badass. The problem is that carrying does not allow you to act Billy Badass. The OP could have trailed the offender and reported it to the authorities, but that would be the most he should attempt. Escallating the incedent to a confrontation, while satisfying, is not the most prudent response. But if all else fails, two to center mass and one to the head.
