I lived a couple years in Paris when i was studying for my diplôme supérieur from la Sorbonne. It was probably the best time in my life.
The rest of France is also hella great. Don't ignore the small villages either. If you don't speak French, hook up with someone who does. It makes all the difference in the world to be able to communicate in the language of the inhabitants.
Expecting them to speak English is rude and is sensed as a form of bullying. Most Americans don't appreciate being expected to speak Spanish by Latin American visitors, do they?
