It all depends on how "serious" you are talking about. My wife shoots with a Nikon D5100 (she is my second shooter at weddings), that will set you back around $850. My 7000, which will do anything any hobbyist will ever want to do will set you back $1800. Then of course there are the pro bodies which range anywhere from $2000 - $7000.
