Its a factory desert racer. What makes it so special that nobody can ever possibly compete with it? Its pickup truck with a body kit, an offroad suspension (with shocks from Fox Racing), and some bigger tires. Nothing exactly ground breaking there. Its pretty much the same way everyone else has built a pre-runner, Ford is just the first to do it from the factory (as far as I know at least).
If there were some sort of technology in the Raptor that Ford had been developing for years to make it what it is, I'd be more inclined to believe you. But it doesn't. I mean, if it had say conventional RWD but a pair of electric hub motors for the front wheels, and/or a reactive suspension that adjusts itself based on the conditions it encounters, or
... well I can't really think of too many crazy high-tech things it could have to improve it.
And even if it had that sort of gadgetry, the engineers at Ford aren't gods. The folks at GM, and Chrysler (and all the other automakers) have some pretty smart cookies working for them too. There is nothing that Ford can do which GM couldn't replicate if they wanted to (I'll keep my opinion to myself about the reverse though). The only thing that would stop them is the product planing group.
