I agree, and when I first watched I didn't hear the thank you's hence why on page one I said " I didn't hear that, and I digress"

Its just an old throwback anachronism that alway seems to come off badly.

Back in the day, ball players might get a farm tractor or something to help out with the family farm in the off-season. Something they normally couldn't afford, would appreciate and find useful!!

Doing that sort of thing with pro ball players these days is pretty pointless.
