Ford ran several commercials after the fiasco with suttle comments about their lack of government bailout, but it didn't stir much concern from GM people. Within two years GM is once again the world's leader in vehicle production and sales. Ford borrowed billions as well, just didn't do it from the government. If it weren't for Mazda developed Ford products, Ford might have been in even worse shape. The other issue is Ford's loss of Mercury and it's struggling Lincoln (dolled up Taurus) line of cars. On C5, the obvious evidence of superior automobiles in every aspect of appeal to the consumer is Camaro's continuous trouncing of Mustang in sales. Now, that would make a great commercial.
