Ford did take some bailout money, but nowhere near the amount as GM and AIG needed.
However, Ford was smart, and got bank loans before shit hit the fan.
If I opened a business, and a friend opened a competing business, and say I sold 1,000,000 bottles of beer at $4.50 and he sold 700,000 bottles at $7.00, who made more overall profit?
Sure, I outsold him by 30%, but he made more money than I did and he sold less which still gives him room to make a lot more in the long run.
