GM tests each and every vehicle in the snow. Just like they test everything in the desert. It means absolutely nothing with regard to drive-train configurations. They're seeing how things like well traction/stability control work in the snow, how effective the heater is, and how the engine reacts when the grill gets clogged with snow. Its just a part of engineering a vehicle.
