To comment on the original post, I was at a Jaguar dealership yesterday talking to a friend of mine who works there and he explained the whole government regulations thing to me. According to him the regulations say the vehicle that a manufacturer sells the most of must get over 30mpg by 2008, this year, and they also did some tweaking as to how the actual measurement of gas milage is figured out to make it more accurate. So basically, all a manufacturer has to do is make sure the vehicle it sells the most of gets 30mpg or more. So for Ford, all they would do is flood the market with Focuses to meet the regulation, and then the Mustang would be free to do as it pleases. I'm not sure how future regulations are going to affect everything, I'll ask him about that next time I see him, but for right now it seems the Camaro and other RWD cars should be safe with the correct marketing by a manufacturer.
