Not all of them have that problem. Some of the big names like Rolex, Omega, Blancpain, Breitling, don't depreciate like that, in fact I know a guy who keeps his Rolex's mint and trades up every couple of years for a VERY minimum cash outlay.
The problem is in the medium range that are just about affordable by normal people, like lower end Omegas, Tag Heuer, Movado, etc that unfortunately pretty much tank in value. That said, all those will last you forever and are infinitely serviceable, so as long as you don't beat the shit out of them, you also never really have to replace them (If you're, you know, interested in its intended basic function of.... wait for it...... telling time).
