As far as self defense weapon if you don't shoot at least monthly with more than one box of ammo and practice malfunction drills a person needs to stay away from a semi-auto especially a women due to the more frequency of limp wristing one .Get a revolver and be done with it,sure a semi-auto will work fine at the rage and you hear I've never had this gun malfunction, but the one time it counts and something goes wrong when you need it you have tunnel vision and you're in fight or flight mode game over.I shoot a glock ,a lot as in 1000+ rounds a month and it has malfunctioned more than once, not a big deal for me because working through a malfunction is an almost instant reaction for me.For you it might get you killed. If you need 12+ rounds to get it done in a normal self-defense situation you need to practice more.As far as caliber choice and CC,you can expand a 9mm but you can't shrink a 45.With all small caliber hand guns 380 and up if you have proper shot placement it will do the job.The reason you always see 357,45 and the larger calibers listed as one shot stoppers is because usually the more skilled shooter is the one behind the gun. Most non proficient shooters are gonna shy away from the larger harder recoiling weapons.
