If you're using the truck's capacities to an extent that no alternative could fill your needs (like massive shopping trips at home depot, towing, etc.) then you're just paying for the utility that you're taking advantage of. Everything has its price. If you're not using those capacities, then you are just flushing money down the drain for no good reason. Evaluate your needs. If you need (and I mean really need, not just want) the truck, it is just something you'll have to deal with. If you don't need it, then be smart, get something more efficient.
Gas in Anaheim is wonderfully cheap for Southern California (cheap for anywhere in the world but the American Mid-West for that matter) at 2.99/gallon. Driving my Cobalt 12 times a month for the 60 mile round trip commute (plus any other trips) at 26 mpg (lots of REALLY steep hills on my commute) equals 90 bucks a month or so. Yay.
