That's correct.

If you choose the school for the first offense all you have to pay is for the cost of the class which i think is $50 here. But if you get caught doing any moving violation within that time frame, you now have to pay the fines that you avoided by choosing the class plus any points associated with the first offense.

For example, a speeding ticket in the county I live in is $200. If you choose the class you only have to pay the $50 for the class but if you get caught with another moving violation within 5 years you now have to pay the $200 that you avoided the first time (assuming the fine doesn't increase). So if your second violation was another speeding ticket your second ticket would now be $400.

The class also does not prevent the ticket from showing up on your insurance which is something the court does not tell you so your insurance will still go up.
