In two cars with such a small demographic of buyers as the ZL1 and GT500, I'd guess there's not going to be too much cross shopping going on; at least not enough to make any dent into the bottom line of either company.
It's only the die-hard Camaro and Mustang fans that really seem to put any stock in having bragging rights between the two cars. Wasted energy IMO.

Don't pretend that GM didn't send the ZL1 to the 'ring for engineering purposes though. Thats the main reason they, and just about everybody else goes there. GM simply told everyone what their best time was.
