Actually, the French have always been great to us. I learned that it helps if you at least try to speak the language and don't be rude. Speaking of sexually ambiguous, funny story from the trip. We were riding in the subway and it was pretty packed. My wife was on one side of the car we were riding in and I was on the other side. She winked at me and I winked back. Just as I did, I saw the guy sitting behind my wife get this strange look on his face. Then I realized that he thought I winked at him since he couldn't see my wife's face. He made sure not to make any more eye contact with me after that so I guess not every Frenchman is sexually ambiguous.
