The FIRST rule of parking is NEVER draw attention to yourself if you can help it. If you drive a beater with perfect bodywork, and you take up two spaces, you just earned yourself a bullseye. If you drive a car that draws attention all by itself, you do best to park far away and in stealth mode and that does not mean drawing attention to your car by taking up two spaces. It may work once or twice but eventually someone is going to get you.
I try to park far away. If a lone spot isnt available, I park next to an expensive car feeling that my odds are good the Bentley guy doesnt want to trade door paint.
If you park out in the North 40 and still find a car next to you, chances are they respected your ride enough to consider you a safe neighbor.
Its a dog eat-dog-world out there in the parking lot. Alot of good advice was passed along here.
