2010 Pontiac G8s get Direct Injection...

Quote:
For the last six months rumors have been surfacing about what the 2010 model-year would bring for the Pontiac G8. Those six months brought rumors of the death of the Pontiac brand entirely, the official death of the Holden Ute-based Pontiac G8 Sport Truck and rumors that the V6 would be changed out in the G8. Well, thanks to some keen-eyed dealerships alerting GMI, we can finally confirm that the 2010 Pontiac G8 will be getting a welcomed change; a new engine and transmission.
That's right, 2010 is bringing the now well-known direct injected 3.6L High-Feature V6 to the G8 base model. Currently the car is strapped with the port-injected 3.6L that is good for 256 HP. GMI has not yet been able to confirm the power rating of the new G8 V6, but we anticipate it to be near (likely a bit lower than) the 304 HP rating on the all-new Chevrolet Camaro and the Cadillac CTS. Aside from more power, another benefit to the direct injection technology is better fuel economy. The 2009 G8 V6 is rated at 17 MPG city and 25 MPG highway. Like the power ratings, we were unable to confirm any fuel economy projections. The same engine in the 2010 Camaro does 29 MPG, so possibly the new G8 V6 will get closer to that on the highway.
To continue on GM's method of applying the new direct injection engines and transmissions, the G8 V6 will also get a six speed automatic transmission standard. This will replace the current car's five speed automatic. At the current time no other major changes are expected, but stay tuned for developments on the 2010 G8 as we now have sources watching for more changes.
