Not exactly true, how old is your canon? They've used the same EF mount since the late '80's, it's the same on all their SLR cameras. I don't think they've made any other lens mounts since then.
There's also adapters for just about any lenses...I use some oldschool nikon lenses on my canon with good results, you just lose the auto features.

I have the Canon Rebel (1st gen) digital. Got it about 8 yrs ago? Can't get new lenses for it. I tried about a year ago, and unless I want something used off of Ebay, not happening. I happen to like a lot of the auto features, so lens adapters aren't an option
