The OP's gun is a Glock, and it appears the trigger is back, indicating the gun has an empty chamber, so it is relatively safe, the slide would have to be cycled to chamber a round.

I agree, it is not the best place to put a gun, I would not feel comfortable with it, but it is better than sliding around on the floor or across the dash!
