Pretty much, the easiest way to make methanol in large quantities is to use methane (natural gas). Also, methanol is quite somewhat corrosive and eats away at metals like aluminum, bad for LS engines! It is cleaner and more powerful than ethanol (I think) but there are alot of problems that prevent it from comming into widespread use.

Oh, and Dragoneye, this technology pretty marks the end of my opposition to ethanol fuel
