They don't just "shut down" places. When the playstation network went down, they gained access to people's personal information and used it maliciously. Severl people were victims of identity theft due to this. They've been suspected of doing other stuff like this.
It's not just "let's shut it down", it's let's shut it down and ruin people's lives while we have our hands on sensitive information.

It'd be one thing if they just used a super computer and multiple IP addresses to crash the Facebook servers (which has never been done btw - Facebook, since it started has never once "been down") but the Anonymous instead hack in and shut it down that way. Then once they're in they have all of your/our personal info
