All that matters is that GM makes them - not whether there are billions on the road. The Smoking Tire review was right: the Camaro has an edgy design, but it gets tired when there's millions on the road. The edgy look only "works" when it's rarer.
I don't see Toyota Camry owners getting all excited that there's millions of genericized Camrys on the road, but that's essentially what some Camaro owners are getting all excited about.

The vast majority of Camry owners don't know much or care much about cars, that's why they own a Camry. Therefore they could not care less if there are a million Camrys on the road.
On the other hand, the market the Camaro competes in is a very small, niche market with thousands of enthusiasts, and seeing it be successful up against the traditional sales leader is an accomplishment.
The more Camaros GM sells, the better. Exclusivity be damned.
