A prototype doesn't have to look anything like the car its testing for. Look at this Volt prototype for example:



It looks like an older Malibu ... because it is, on the outside. But it does have a Voltec drivetrain, which is the thing that they're testing with the car. The bodywork is just a shell for the mechanical bits.
