The Volt will be a game-changer...but there's a good chance it won't save GM. What is will do, however, is change perceptions about GM. People will be interested in one and head over to their Chevy dealers to see one, see the $40k sticker price, and if they can't afford it, they'll be steered over to a 45 MPG Cruze...or...a rumored 35 MPG Malibu...
