My personal opinion, I think you need to narrow it down to what type of vehicle you want before you visit dealers. You suggest you might be interested in SUV's, mid size sedan's, small comuter cars, electric, Lincoln luxury, and sporty Camaro convertible.
You are all over the board, and I don't think the dealers will consider you a serious buyer, if you're not even sure what type of vehicle you want.
Search the internet and narrow down the type of vehicle you really want to buy. Decide what options you want, go to the "build your own" sites and see what the msrp will be for your vehicle. You can also use the internet to find out dealer invoicing, dealer incentives, holdbacks, etc.
If you're trading a vehicle, find out what the avarage trade value is.
If you think your salesperson is going to know everything about every model, you may be disappointed. I'm not saying they shouldn't know, but it's unlikely that they will. That's why you need to know, so you don't get taken. Most everything you will need to know you can most likely find on the internet.
The more info you are armed with when you actually visit the dealer, you will be able to negotiate intelligently and more likely to get the best deal. JMHO
