Kids today are rexruited totally different than years past. Use to be that they went to a school because of a Coach....See Bear Bryant, Pat Dye, Barry Switzer etc......just because they wanted to be associated with those people.
While kids today still have loyalties to a school it is not as important. Most highly recruited kids want to go to a school that can get you to the next level, The NFL, and look at programs and coaches that can do that. They want playing time, to be on ESPN Sportsenter, nationally televised games and WIN.
The big problem is that most of these high rated kids are a bust......Look at the past 5 years Top recruits.....most don't even know who they are now.
We will take my school, Alabama, for example......many of these high recruits can not cut it in college and they transfer because they aren't the stars of the team. Javier Arenas was not even recruited and was only offered at Alabama, barely a 3 star recruit. He excelled because it was in him and he tried, listened to coaching and was in a good place.
Most of these kids who are recruited are told from a very young age that they are the best things walking.....see Terrell Pryor, only to fall on their face because they have no work ethic. Some develope into good players.
The majority come from backgrounds that are hardly above poverty level and see this is a way out.......Talent can only carry you so far...hard work will carry you alot further.
I think that was the main complaint about the LHN, Exposure. Exposure gives these kids an added advantage, not in college but after.
Take Garrett Gilbert for example........the way he played the second half of the BCS N/C game against Alabama let everyone with a feeling that he is gonna be a good one because he was baptized by fire. Only the next year he falls on his face and now is warming the bench...is it politics???? But McCoy and Ash are performing and in college football that is all that matters.
