good point, very good point... But my best guess is that it's the paranoia of the CARB people that is killing this. They most likely believe that people will drive their cars on normal roads with the track key for everyday driving. Grant it, some people may do this, but still, paranoia over nothing really...
If they're that worried, ford could add some more features to the track key that would make it inconvenient to use the track key during normal driving, such as disabling the AC, radio, and cruise control. All of which have no place on the track... Sure people may complain about that, but I'd take that over not being able to get the key at all due to regulator paranoia.
