It just goes to show it's crazy how much talent there is in Texas. I'm just curious if the SEC is going to try and use the Aggies to try and tap into that further.
I was bored and did some research:
There are 245 Division 5A high schools in Texas. Assuming an average of 12 or 13 kids per team graduating each year, that's anywhere from 2,900 to 3,200 high school football players trying to get college scholarships each year. Obviously, only a fraction of those will be considered athletic enough to play at the next level. But that's just from Division 5A. I don't even know where to find the total number of Division 4A, 3A, 2A, or 1A high schools in the state of Texas.
Most people would say that you shouldn't include 1A high schools, but just look at offensive lineman Leonard Davis that played for the Dallas Cowboys. He went to Wortham High School (which is a Div. 1A school) but was given a scholarship to attend UT. So, while the odds are much lower that Div 1A and 2A players will get a scholarship, the chance is still there.
Now I'm kind of curious how those numbers compare to Florida, who I've heard is supposed to be the second biggest market for high school football talent...
