Same goes for trying to say that people must be "jealous" if a kid is more fortunate than they were.
Nonsense. The facts are indisputable that giving a 16 year old kid a high powered "status" car increases their chances of getting into a serious accident and either killing themselves or killing other people.
That's not a responsible act by the parents, which is my only point, so drop all the "hater" nonsense. You're embarrassing yourself.

My parents gave me the hand-me-down 1986 S-10 Blazer. It was in amazing shape, even if it only had the oh-so-powerful 2.8L V6 pushing...110hp...

And I loved the sh!t out of that car!
They gave me that vehicle, not because they couldn't afford to give me something nicer, but because it was one of those vehicles that would let me prove to my parents whether I'm a responsible driver or not. If I screwed up, the learning curve wasn't nearly as steep as the learning curve for...say...a brand new Camaro SS (which would've been a model year '99 at the time).
Too much power + too little experience = bad consequences

Let me guess, you never drove more then the speed limit, you always used your blinker when changing lanes or turning, and you always came to a complete stop at every stop sign. Right. I believe you
