The throws are getting so short, though...it's less of a "shift" and more of a "click"....
I remember shifting a family member's old...something...forget what it was...shifting felt like I was reaching to change the radio (and I have shifted a big truck, too.

) Nowadays...especially with the "short-throw" shifters in the Corvette and Camaro, etc...it's nothing more than a flick of the wrist.
and fwiw...just skip a few gears driving to the grocery store and you could have a 2-speed manual...a 3-speed...4-speed...or all seven if you feel like it.
