In the Dallas area, I suggest these areas: south of 121, east of I-35E, west of I-75, and north of I-30E. the best affordable suberbs are Frisco, Plano, carrollton, richardson. if you dont mind driving far north, you could consider McKinney or anything west of Mckinney off of highway 380.

All these suggestions are great, if you are working in those areas as well. Traffic can be a nightmare in the Ballantyne area during rush hour. And 77 is a total cluster F as well during those same times, when you travel to Huntersville and Cornelius areas. Even the areas around Sharon Amity and Providence are crazy. Again key to living in these spots is to actually having your work located there.

I live in South End, and work in the Tyvola Road Office Parks. Commute is an easy 15 mins through the city streets and there's lots of things to do around South End and Uptown is only a stone's throw away. I am 29, considering you are 28, maybe with no family, then Uptown and South End is perfect for you. The Rent isn't too bad and the Condos are actually pretty frikkin cheap.

Hope that helps.
