I can answer this one. When the ACR first set the record in 2009, using the 2008 model ACR, they did so in 3 laps. They knew it had more in it, but time and weather didn't allow it. When the 2010 Viper came out, it came with a revised (more aggressive) 5th gear ratio and revised aero designs on the ACR wing. These mods have proven at other tracks vs the 2008 model. But, the 2010 Viper was never run at the 'Ring to show it. They knew they would beat it again. Dodge didn't pay for this trip, a few Viper dealers got together and funded the trip. Just because they could.
