It's tragic when drivers don't respect their machines and the law.
As soon as my kids are old enough to get their learners, I'm planning on having them go autocrossing with me to teach them how to handle high-speed situations.
However, nothing can protect an individual from excessive speeding and causing harm to themselves, but hopefully, not others.
