I have never been to the event but based on what I have read I think a lot of it could be solved by adding a couple more off duty police officers to the security detail. One or two posted at the entrance/exit to pop the morons showing their ass when they leave, one posted with your greeter, and one or two more scattered around the event just for general security.

You guys are also going to have to decide if you want the show lot to truly be "first come first serve" or "exotic and collector cars lot only". I get that you guys want it to be open but I would not let that kill the event. There is nothing wrong with establishing standards/systems to preserve the integrity of the event.
