At the end of the news video the kid with the R8 sets the record straight by telling the police that it was his buddies who going "well in excess of 200kph (120mph)". Apparently he was just trying to keep up.
The fact that they were not charged with dangers driving, a criminal offense under the criminal code and only charged with street racing under the motor vehicle act says they might not have enough evidence. However, I'm thinking that a week with these car would be more than enough time to access the black box and find out just how fast they were going.
A better question that maybe should be asked is what parent buys their kids cars like these when the have been driving for 2 years or less?
