the 'mod motor' name comes from its assembly. So they can design a completely new engine and it would still be a modular V8, aka mod motor.

But since we are talking about hypotheticals here . . . I'm surprised that nothing much has been said about GM's direct injection V8's that are down the road. The way I see it, GM will offer up their own version of the track pack, lower rear gear, suspension upgrade, and maybe a cold air intake or something so that it still stays ahead assuming that Ford shocks everyone with a 400/400 engine in a 3500lb Mustang. Then, a year or two later the gen V small block debuts.
