Best piece of advice in this thread. Never make it obvious you're looking for a girlfriend, and they'll flock to you. Once you seem needy for a girlfriend, you'll get friendzoned and they'll date your buddies.
As for your original question, I'm in college right now and there's roughly 30,000 or so girls who go here. Everyday, I see at least a couple of really hot girls walking around. Sometimes, if I know I'm looking decent (not coming back from working out, or it's a really hot day, or I was late to class and am gonna shower when I get back) I'll stop one and just say something like "Excuse me, this is forward but would you mind if I took you out on a date" I've never gotten a negative response such as "No", but you do get the "I'm dating someone, that's so nice though" or "I'm not looking for a relationship now, but thank you!!". This is there way of letting you down nicely, they could even be lying by saying those but at least there nice enough to not directly say no. I've went out with a couple girls this way, had some fun. It all comes down to how confident you are when you do it. If you're mumbling, get nervous or something chances are you won't score. I straight up say it as if I were ordering something at subway, because I don't give a s**t if she says no. That's 29,999 girls left on campus. Give it a try, just don't be upset if you get shot down a couple times. And finally don't go up to every girl at the mall, they'll notice. You have to make the one your asking feel special, as if you picked her out from everyone around her so at least wait till she's gone to ask someone else. Let us know how it goes, I'm meeting up with someone Tuesday night who I asked to go out while in line at McDonald's here.
