. The holiday is observed throughout the commonwealth on December 26th. historically it was supposed to be the poor mans christmas, where workers and their families would get boxes of gifts from their boss. Now it is the single biggest shoping day in Canada. Some stores top a million dollars in sales in one day. The stores use boxing day/boxing week sales to clear out all their old merchandise that wasn't bought for Christmas. The other important thing about boxing day is that it is the start of the world junior hockey tournement.
