R&T: FRPP 400hp Mustang GT tested!

Here's why: The engineers at Ford Racing know that tweaking your Mustang is a God-given right, so they've updated their catalog of performance parts specifically for the new 2010 pony car, many of which were fitted to our blue steed and are geared not only toward making the car go faster, but also to change directions more willingly and not lose its brake pedal after only a few hot laps on a road course.

These modifications include a Whipple supercharger, a screw-type blower (without an intercooler) whose 5 psi of boost helps the otherwise stock 4.6-liter V-8 produce 400 bhp at 6100 rpm and 400 lb.-ft. of torque at 4500 rpm. Those are good gains over stock, with no sacrifice in everyday driveability and only a hint of high-rpm blower whine cutting through the bellowing roar of the Ford Racing X-pipe exhaust with low-restriction mufflers. The gearbox is the stock 5-speed manual but with significantly shorter throws, thanks to a Hurst shift kit with a billet shift lever capped by a black cue-ball knob. Power is sent rearward to a 3.73:1 limited-slip rear end, and if you can limit wheelspin (tough to do with the traction control off) you'll be treated to a trip to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and a quarter-mile blast in 13.4 at 108.2 mph. That's four-tenths quicker than a GT in both tests.
Is it just me or does this 400hp Mustang seem slow compared to the Camaro?
