Movies don't have to be "written" for the lowest common denominator amongst the viewing public. A good story is worth ten special effects enhanced re-re-editions of comic books, tv series, sequels and prequels ad nauseum.

Good stories CAN and are written for the screen, but these days they come to the theatre ONLY when their producer is a maverick who can afford to thumb his nose at the usual investors' cupidity (greed for money). Johnny Depp is willing to take artistic chances, recall his renditions of "Dead Man" in black and white no less, or "Before Night Falls" where he plays two parts: a Cuban policeman, and a transvestite whore in a Cuban men's prison. Or Clint Eastwoods "Unforgiven".
Uhhh yeah?
