Th is way the dog knows, or will learn to know whos in charge. This way he/she will learn that when he/she is given a command, they will listen. This way, after the LESSONS are done, if YOU pay attention, you can continue to train your dog and all will be happy at home.

I think the biggest thing we learned is that the dog gets nothing for free. If he's getting a treat he earns it by following a command. If he wants to play ball he earns it...I will make him sit and wait until I release him to go. This is how they learn that we are in charge...it's a long process but it's been fun for me. I am definitely the doggie disciplinarian...just like I was for the kids...hubby is too soft. They need boundaries...if I'm out with him he can only get so far adn I do a recall...call him back...why because I said so... he gets rewarded....maybe next time he can go further but he knows if I call he comes back... There are some good books and online info too but a hands on trainer to help learn dog signals and signs was great for us.
