If you snore, are over 25, have a large neck or are overweight... go to your doctor and DEMAND a sleep study.
Chances are high you have sleep apnea. Those of you have it should know, it's serious and it's a killer. It wears down your heart and takes years off of your life.
Had my father's been diagnosed earlier, he might not have died at 51 (when I was 17). And it's nothing to even joke about "dying peacefully in your sleep." I was with him, he wasn't asleep and it wasn't peaceful. A heart attack caused by a failing heart (induced by sleep apnea) is NOT a pleasant way to go.
If you guys think you might possibly have it - especially those who stop sleeping in their sleep (you do have it)- get to a doctor, immediately. It could seriously save your life.
I'm 23 (24 in August) and in decent physical shape - but I have a bigger neck. I get my first sleep study this fall and will do one annually until either I need treatment or until I'm too old for it to matter.
I make this my PSA to anyone I meet. I wish someone had done it for my family, so I figure if I can help just one person, well, that's good enough for me.
